Chapter 6

Nicole.

I woke up with a big smile on my face. Last night felt almost too good to be true. I glanced to my left where Chris was still fast asleep and then pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

Last night had been a blur. After weeks of being apart, only to end up in the same function and find each other again. Right after I had opened up to Natalie about Chris. It felt like fate. And I was so happy that we had both seen the situation clearly and realized that it was time to declare our true feelings for each other. I lifted my hand and lightly stroked Chris’ cheek before planting a soft kiss on it. I was back together with the man I loved.

Even though I tried not to wake him up, my efforts proved to be in vain. Chris opened his eyes slowly, glancing up before fixating on me. A big smile spread across his face.

“Good morning beautiful,” he groaned with a voice full of sleep. He pulled me in his arms and just held me close.

“Good morning.” I looked up at him. “I’m so happy right now.”

“So am I. And I love you. I love saying ‘I love you’ to you,” he laughed and I fluffed his hair with my fingers.

“I love saying it to you too.”

“So, what does my love want for breakfast? I think I feel like something European..how about some fresh croissants and cappuccino? There’s an amazing bakery right outside the building.”

I got up on my elbows, looking down at Chris with the covers pulled up to his waist, leaving his chiseled chest exposed. I put my hand on his shoulder and massaged it lightly.

“Croissants sound great. Let’s go!”

We hopped out of bed and put on some casual Saturday clothes: sweats and a t-shirt. I borrowed some from him. I couldn’t keep my eyes off him when we brushed our teeth and kept staring at him from the mirror.

“What?” He asked with his toothbrush in hand and a coy smile plastered across his face.

“Nothing..you’re just super cute brushing your teeth with your hair all over the place,” I revealed and chuckled. He nudged me on my arm.

We slipped into our coats and took the elevator downstairs, then walked through the front doors, the cool air surrounding us. Chris grabbed my hand in his and we walked over to the bakery.

The smell of fresh baked goods was incredible and we ended up buying way more than we needed.

“There’s no way we’re going to finish these,” I looked at him with an astonished look on my face.

“You’re probably right..but how can you say no to this pain au chocolat?”

After getting one of everything and paying, we walked to a nearby coffee shop and got two cappuccinos to go.

“Hold on, let me get today’s paper as well.” Chris remarked and handed me the coffees, then grabbed the paper from a newsstand and paid for it. We slowly made our way back to his apartment, walking hand in hand and enjoying being close.
